CANCELLED!! Tea Party Group To Get ‘Fired Up For Freedom,’ Burn Rep. Perriello In Effigy

TPM/Eric Kleefeld—The local Tea Party organization in Danville, Virginia, is taking their opposition to freshman Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello to a whole new level — announcing that they will burn him in effigy, along with a similar image of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, at a rally called “Fired Up For Freedom.”

At this point we feel we have no representation in Congress,” Danville Tea Party chairman Nigel Coleman told the Chatham Star Tribune, with the chief complaint being Perriello’s vote for the House health care bill this past weekend.

Perriello’s office declined to comment to TPM about this.

***TPM Update I***

DCCC chairman Chris Van Hollen has responded in a statement. “These shocking and despicable acts are becoming all too common at extreme right-wing Republican rallies. Hanging Members in effigy or displaying images of Nazi concentration camps on the steps of the Capitol have no place in any debate and Republican Members of Congress must condemn these actions,” said Van Hollen. “While there should be a robust debate about reforming America’s broken health insurance system, violent expressions are beyond the boundaries of a respectful debate. The American people are counting on Republicans to join Democrats in a constructive debate to help President Obama bring about urgently-needed health insurance reform.

***TPM Update II***

TPM: The plan by the Danville TEA Party Patriots to burn Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi in effigy — a sort of Tea-Party Burning Man — has been called off, Greg Sargent reports: “We will not be going forward with the plan,” a crestfallen Coleman told me by phone moments ago. “We had to cancel it. The property owner won’t allow us to do it. The media attention was something that he didn’t want.”

Coleman said he was upset that people had gotten the wrong idea about his plan. “I’m disappointed that the story got out of hand and people misinterpreted something we thought would be a little historical lesson. They made people believe that we were committing an act of violence,” he said, adding that the “they” in question were the “liberal blogs.”

On Nov. 5, Perriello had a conversation with several of the TEA Party members, attempting to explain his position while they talked over him:

South Carolina Needs to Stop the Stupidity by Brian Hicks

Posted by Audiegrl

Op-ed by Brian Hicks

michelle-obama-white-house-portraitPost and Courier/Brian Hicks—Let’s get this straight: The White House has allowed first lady Michelle Obama to tool around Moscow, the Czech Republic and even Ghana in the past year, but officials are a little worried about her coming to South Carolina.

They consider the atmosphere here too dangerous.

Just when it seemed the summer of shame was over, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn dropped this bombshell on The Post and Courier’s Yvonne Wenger on Friday. Clyburn says the White House is wary of bringing the first lady to the state because of the attitude of some of its residents.

Even if they are overreacting, or if Clyburn is overstating the case, it’s embarrassing.

If security professionals, who apparently have reservations, actually believe it is too dangerous for the first family to visit a U.S. state, then we have dropped below the status of a Third World country.

It makes us look like buffoons, racists and backwater morons.

A loudmouthed minority of Neanderthals and sore losers have so poisoned the national discourse with their racist rantings, crude jokes and veiled threats that they have sullied South Carolina’s reputation more than any governor, congressman or senator could ever imagine.

So, thanks for that.

If unemployment holds at its current rates, you can thank these same idiots. Think any international company, any major business, will locate to a state where the president’s own wife might not be safe?

This is not about politics or that socialism baloney cooked up by politicians and insurance companies. It is about respect for the office.

This is the bottom of the barrel.

U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn

U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn

This all came about when Clyburn, who has close ties to the White House, asked that the first lady attend an event at South Carolina State University. There have been more than 100 requests for the first lady to visit.

Clyburn quoted Valerie Jarrett, adviser to the president and a friend of the Obamas, as saying, “It’s not always our decision to make.” The implication is that the Secret Service has concerns about the state. A lot of it, Clyburn said, has to do with the climate in South Carolina.

He wasn’t talking about the humidity, just the stupidity.

Clyburn was talking about Rusty DePass, a South Carolina Republican activist, who earlier this year said a gorilla that escaped from the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia was an ancestor of Michelle Obama. Some rubes thought that was hilarious.

Clyburn was talking about the reaction to U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson’s rude outburst of “You lie!” to President Barack Obama. Wilson has been hailed as a conquering hero by some for doing little more than embarrassing many of this state’s residents.

He was talking about the knucklehead cowards who anonymously post vitriolic comments online.

Republicans in Congress…everything your demagoguery democracy needs

Posted by Audiegrl

The Republican party today has little interest in developing constructive policy. Its reps would rather spend their energy offering up ridiculous claims to see if they can ride a wave of deceit back into power. Hopefully, they’ll just catch a riptide and get pulled further out to sea.~~Waking Up Now

AUTO-TUNE-THE-NEWS-largekeithoHuffington Post––Michael and Andrew Gregory are back with their NINTH installment of “Auto-Tune the News.” So far they’ve taken on Sean Hannity in a gorilla costume, spiced up climate change speeches by GOPers, and used Arianna Huffington’s serious words on the drug war to make light of their own reckless youths. Now they’ve moved on to the health care debate, Keith Olberman, Congressman Alan Grayson and President Obama’s Peace Prize.

Enjoy!

GOP Rep. Trent Franks Calls Obama An Enemy Of Humanity

Posted by Audiegrl

An enemy of humanity? I’m left speechless…

GOP Rep. Trent Franks

GOP Rep. Trent Franks

Huffington Post—A Republican member of the House of Representatives accused President Barack Obama of being “an enemy of humanity” during a conservative values forum this past weekend.

In a speech Saturday before the How to Take Back America conference, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) made comments that went far beyond the limits of traditional White House criticism. At one point, Franks demanded that Obama release his birth certificate to prove his constitutionally eligibility to hold office. The bluntest charge, however, centered on the president’s position on abortion, which the congressman derided as “insane” and godless.

“Obama’s first act as president of any consequence, in the middle of a financial meltdown, was to send taxpayers’ money overseas to pay for the killing of unborn children in other countries,” said Frank. “Now, I got to tell you, if a president will do that, there’s almost nothing that you should be surprised at after that. We shouldn’t be shocked that he does all these other insane things. A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can’t do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.”

RightWingWatch.org, who provided the video, also has a follow up to this story

A spokesperson for Trent’s office attempts to clarify:

Trent Franks of Arizona said in a speech to conservatives Saturday in St. Louis that Obama’s decision to fund international family planning organizations that support legal abortion shows “he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.”

Bethany Haley, spokeswoman for Franks, said the congressman was referring to “unborn humanity” and should have clarified his statement.

Right… As you can see we have another example of an elected Republican official throwing red meat to his base, and then being forced to ‘clarify‘ his comments after the event has concluded and the damage has been done.

These attempts to de-humanize the President will only continue to increase the climate of hate.
