RNC Chairman Michael Steele was speaking to students at Philander Smith College in Little Rock. The students got a chance to ask questions of Steele. That’s when it got interesting.

One questioner, identified as Matt White, a local tavern owner, asked Steele why Republican’s are blocking health care reform, and how did he think Martin Luther King would view that.

QUESTION: In all seriousness, I’m curious what you think that Dr. King would think about your party’s current attempts to block universal health care?…

STEELE: It’s a great myth that we’re doing all this blocking. I wish we had that kind of control with the numbers, but we don’t. … As I’ve said to the president many times, “If that’s the bill you want, vote it up or down.”

Steele goes in to his normal song and dance about how President Obama should pass it, if he has the votes, ad nauseam…

But when White tries to ask a follow-up question to Steele’s response, White’s mic is shut off, and he is escorted from the room by security. I’ve watched this video several times, and at no time did Mr. White show anything but courtesy to Steele.

We really shouldn’t be surprised, given what Steele said to a young lady when she questioned him about healthcare reform at Howard University.

“So people go to town halls, they go out to the community, and they’re like this. [shakes fists] It makes for great TV. You’ll probably make it tonight. Enjoy it.”—RNC Chair Michael Steele, responding to 23-year-old college grad/activist Amanda Duzak, who interrupted Steele speaking about healthcare at Howard University yesterday, to tell him about “her own mother who died of cancer six months ago because she couldn’t afford her prescription chemotherapy medications. The audience applauded her.” Steele accused her of trying to get on TV.

When Steele is asked about the terrible behavior and antics of this summer’s TownHall protesters, he had this to say:

“I’ll speak slowly. There’s legitimacy to the protest. But how people protest…. I have no control over.”

and this:

“Why is it so out of the ordinary that the American people should stand up and say, ‘I have a concern about something the government is going to do?’

So according to Steele, if you are a Republican, its okay to protest, but if you are not, then you get escorted out of the room by security? Nice…Hey Mike, WWMLKD?
