Keith Olbermann delivered an hour-long “Special Comment” Wednesday night on the urgent need for health care reform. Drawing on his personal experiences with the system, especially the ordeal of his father falling gravely ill and being hospitalized, Olbermann describes a decaying system that is failing to fulfill one of the most important priorities we have as a nation: taking care of our citizens.

Olbermann particularly targets the insurance companies, illustrating how their business models are more focused on making money than helping people, which leads to very perverse incentives. The insurance companies are concerned about profit, which is why they’re fighting against health reform. Olbermann concludes, “The insurance companies are at war with America.”

At the end of the show, Olbermann states that he is going to demonstrate his support for reform by donating money to help the establishment of free clinics in the capital cities of each of the states of the six senators who are blocking reform.

Tonight Olbermann announced that he will be donating $50,000 to NAFC for the five state capital cities where free health fairs can be held. Olbermann believes by donating he will accomplish three things. Medical good, humanitarian good, and political good for the entire nation. The Democratic Senators who are dragging their heels on true health care reform are on the Wall of Shame:

Carrie Prejean Sues Pageant For Religious Discrimination

Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean

Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean

I should have entitled this diary ‘Prolonging her 15 minutes of fame‘…

As reported by Anthony McCartney at Huffington Post: Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean sued pageant officials Monday for libel, slander and religious discrimination, accusing them of telling her to stop mentioning God even before her controversial remarks against gay marriage.

Prejean sued California pageant executive director Keith Lewis and actress and former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, who served as a co-director before resigning in protest of Prejean. She is also suing publicist Roger Neal, who handles press for Miss California USA and Lewis.

Prejean was fired in June by pageant officials who said she missed several scheduled appearances.

One interesting point of fact: She is not sueing Donald Trump, who owns Miss California USA’s parent organization and who in May refused to fire Prejean, a decision he reversed a month later. Even she knew better than to try that one.

Now there should be at least one reality show producer out there who would be interested in giving her a show. I know that her guest spot on the Fox and Friends show didn’t go that well (and this from a network that typically sets the bar pretty low for their on-air news readers). But why should the rest of us have to put up with news stories on her lawsuit, ad nauseam for the upcoming months? That seems like cruel and unusual punishment.

As Keith Olbermann often asks Sarah Palin, I’ll now ask the same of Ms. Prejean.

How can we miss you, if you won’t go away?
