First Lady Michelle Obama Appeared on The Today Show

Posted by: Audiegrl

It’s been a little over a year since First Lady Michelle Obama stepped into her role at the White House, and she sat down today with Matt Lauer from the Today Show on Wednesday, February 3, and reflected on her time so far and her future goals.

She noted that she would like to look back and feel like she affected somebody’s life because she was here, which brings on her new initiative on childhood obesity, an increasing problem in the nation, since statistics show that one in three kids is obese. “The most shocking sort of reality that really hits you is that the young generation is on track for the first time in this nation’s history of being less healthy, having a shorter life span than their parents.” The First Lady said the problem is solvable, and they will be striving for attainable goals, but the broad vision is to “change the health status of an entire generation.”

On balancing her work with being a mother: “I find a level of comfort in that role.” She acknowledged that there are challenges, but that she remains the same person she was before she entered the White House. “What people have seen over the course of the year is really Michelle.” She maintained the same for the President, who she says despite challenges that face the nation, “handled the pressure with that same level of grace that he came here with.”

You all might remember us covering another reality show murder case last month. Ryan Jenkins a self-professed millionaire and contestant of VH1’s “Megan Wants A Millionaire” was accused of killing his wife, Jasmine Fiore in LA, and then fleeing to Canada where he committed suicide. My post “True Crime: Have Reality TV Shows Gone to Far?” suggested that reality shows needed to employ more thourogh vetting processes, before more people get hurt. Here we go again….

Brian Lee Randone

AP—A self-proclaimed preacher who was on the TV beauty pageant “The Sexiest Bachelor in America” will be arraigned next week for allegedly torturing and murdering his girlfriend, an ex-adult movie actress.

Brian Lee Randone, 45, was charged last week with one count of murder and one count of torture. He was scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 29 and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Randone remained jailed Friday on $2 million bail. Robison did not know whether he had an attorney.

Randone was arrested on Sept. 11. Prosecutors said he beat and choked Felicia Lee during a domestic dispute at their apartment in the foothill community of Monrovia, northeast of Los Angeles.

He then dialed 911 to report she was unconscious, investigators said.

“It appeared to be torture prior to the murder,” Sgt. Brian Schoonmaker, a homicide detective working the case, said Friday. Lee apparently suffered dozens of injuries in the 24 hours before she died, Schoonmaker said, but he did not provide details.

MSNBC Reporter Heckled At Values Voter Summit

Posted by Audiegrl

I watched this happen live today, and yes, my mouth was hanging open in shock. While reporting this afternoon from the floor of the Values Voter Summit, MSNBC reporter Brian Mooar was heckled by several audience members who said he was being rude and disrespectful.

Why are conservatives so damn angry? We have seen this type of behavior before. At teabag rallies, health care townhalls, and of course recently during the President’s speech about health care in the House of Representatives.

Why are they so put-upon and angry with everyone that doesn’t have the same ideology? Does this entitle them to throw out all forms of civility? Believe me, no one was more upset with Bush and his cronies for the last eight years, than I was. Well maybe Code Pink was more angry. 😉

But it would have never crossed my mind to be openly rude to a Republican. I always felt that we could always channel our anger in a constructive way, like social networking, civil protests, rallies, or ultimately in the voting booth.

This episode today was so far out of left field, that MSNBC now reports that Mooar received a personal apology from Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, the organization behind the summit. Perkins also said there would be an announcement made telling the audience to be respectful of the press.

I am pretty sure that this was not the picture that Republican’s wanted to show to the world today. Its a very ugly picture.

Here is another video, but this time they are heckling the Fox reporter. Now when they are even asking the Fox reporter to leave, then you know something is wrong in the universe.

Can there be any room for a centrist at a health care reform town hall meeting?

Posted by Audiegrl
Star Ledger Live’s Brian Donohue found out pretty quickly that adults at a town hall held in the Red Bank Middle School, are not necessarily going to be better behaved than the regular middle school students. There was no discussion, no real listening, and no way to call the principle or send them to detention. When health care reform opponents start shouting down a disabled woman in a wheelchair, there is no hope for a adult discussion.
