Posted by: Audiegrl

President Barack Obama is taking his family back to Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., for summer vacation. President Obama and First Pooch Bo rode Air Force One on Thursday afternoon to Martha’s Vineyard, where they were to meet First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia. This marks the first family’s second summer vacation on the New England island, where they will stay in a rental home for 11 days and return to the White House on Aug. 29.

Two-Legged Dog to Inspire British Troops Wounded in Afghanistan

A dog named Faith inspires others simply by being able to walk with just her two hind legs.

Special Services Bowman with Faith

Tonic/Marc Hertz~There are some things you have to see to believe, and Faith is one of those. She’s a labrador-chow mix born without one front leg and another that was severely deformed, only to be removed when Faith was seven months old due to atrophy. What’s truly amazing about Faith is that, despite having only her two hind legs, she can still walk on them, as you can see in the video below.

Faith is something of a celebrity, having appeared on Oprah a few years ago, and according to The Sun, she’s actually an honorary sergeant. The US Army gave her that title because she’s helped disabled veterans trying to overcome injuries they sustained in war zones, even donning a military jacket when she visits bases or hospitals. As her owner, Jude Stringfellow, was quoted, “Faith seems to inspire these young men. It’s very emotional watching them respond to her. She shows what can be achieved against great odds.”

Now, she’s planning to go international. Stringfellow wants to bring Faith to the UK, so she can bring her own brand of inspiration to those troops wounded in Afghanistan. Before she can do so, though, quarantine rules will have to be met. For the sake of those wounded soldiers, let’s hope they have the chance to see Faith “marching” their way.

AP ~ First grandmother Marian Robinson didn’t have a dog growing up. Neither did her daughter, first lady Michelle Obama.

But since Bo moved into the White House and become part of the first family, Robinson says she loves him “almost like a person.”

Mrs. Robinson told about 100 pre-kindergarten through third-grade pupils Thursday that Bo is “precious.” She answered the kids’ questions after reading to them during an Education Department-sponsored story hour.

Mrs. Robinson lives at the White House with her son-in-law, President Barack Obama, her daughter and granddaughters Malia and Sasha, and nearly 2-year-old Bo.

She turns 73 on July 29.

First Lady Michelle Obama Celebrates Take Your Child to Work Day

CBSNews~First Lady Michelle Obama this morning held a question-and-answer session with about 100 children of White House staffers in the East Room of the White House. The occasion? Take Your Child to Work Day.

“What’s important to know is that your parents got here because they worked hard,” the first lady said. “They worked hard when they were your age. And I tell my kids this all the time: If you want to work in a place like the White House, no matter what you do, now is the time that you have to start thinking about working hard in school.”

One child asked Mrs. Obama “what will happen if something bad happened to a country.”

“Well, first of all I’d wake my husband up if it were at night,” she responded, prompting laughter. “And I’d tell him, hey, buddy, you’re the president, get down to the Oval Office and call some leaders.”

Asked about the much-obsessed over first dog, Bo, the first lady called him “crazy.”

“He loves to chew on people’s feet,” she said.

Another student asked what Mrs. Obama likes to do in her free time. She said that she doesn’t have much free time, and that she is spending a lot of time taking care of the puppy and going to her kids’ games.

She does, however, occasionally “sneak out” for a little fun, she said.

“Every now and then I have this thing that I like to do with some of my staff members, and we sneak out, without telling anybody, and we go and test out all the fun places to eat in D.C. — like I went to Five Guys and nobody knew it,” she said, prompting laughs from the children. “It was good.”
