In a sign that momentum behind a repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy is having an impact, openly gay U.S. Army National Guard Lieutenant Dan Choi has been recalled to active duty.

Choi, a West Point graduate and trained Arabic linguist, was dismissed from duty in the spring of 2009, because of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” Since then, he’s been a leading voice for the cessation of the policy.

glad something positive is finally happening with this movement. They could have 10 straight men and wouldn’t come close to equaling one of Lt. Choi!

    • I knew this was coming, although the media wasn’t covering it, there were all sorts of little moves going on behind the scenes, if you took the time to find them. We’ve blogged about these small stories extensively, and anyone could see that something was changing.

People just jumped to the in-correct assumption, that President Obama was not going to get rid of DADT. They wanted it done NOW and didn’t seem to understand that it would take time, to do it right, and make it a law that the next President could not just get rid of it with a executive order. 🙂

  2. This is the best news that I’ve heard in a long time. I’m so happy to see him get back to active duty. Maybe some others that have been on TV lately will also go back in, like the AF Lt. Col who I believe had 18 years of service and was “called out” by a 3rd party, will be allowed back in to finish an honorable career with all the benefits of a retired officer. I can only hope.

    • Its excellent news Bets :-)) This is how you change something in a intelligent way, so that once its done, no other Presidents can change it with just the stroke of a pen.
