Keith Olbermann delivered an hour-long “Special Comment” Wednesday night on the urgent need for health care reform. Drawing on his personal experiences with the system, especially the ordeal of his father falling gravely ill and being hospitalized, Olbermann describes a decaying system that is failing to fulfill one of the most important priorities we have as a nation: taking care of our citizens.

Olbermann particularly targets the insurance companies, illustrating how their business models are more focused on making money than helping people, which leads to very perverse incentives. The insurance companies are concerned about profit, which is why they’re fighting against health reform. Olbermann concludes, “The insurance companies are at war with America.”

At the end of the show, Olbermann states that he is going to demonstrate his support for reform by donating money to help the establishment of free clinics in the capital cities of each of the states of the six senators who are blocking reform.

Tonight Olbermann announced that he will be donating $50,000 to NAFC for the five state capital cities where free health fairs can be held. Olbermann believes by donating he will accomplish three things. Medical good, humanitarian good, and political good for the entire nation. The Democratic Senators who are dragging their heels on true health care reform are on the Wall of Shame:

  1. MORE GOV. INVOLVMENT IS NOT NEEDED – MEDICAL CARE IS RATIONED NOW, AND MORE RATIONING WILL BE DONE IF THE GOV. OVERHAULS MEDICAL CARE. Consider that we are in debt for decades, how is more healthcare going to be paid for, Medicaid and Medicare are so inefficient that they are now having trouble, so HOW COULD THERE NOT BE MORE RATIONING, which means you get LESS healthcare, not more. WHY should more POWER be put in the hands of an already inefficient bureaucracy?

Many choose to not have health insurance – maybe choosing their own Health Savings Account. These people despise the idea of the government telling them what healthcare they will receive; to add insult to injury they WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR AN INEFFICIENT HEALTHCARE SCHEME IN EXCESSIVE TAXES.

WHY DON’T PEOPLE TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE – let the private sector take care of health care overhaul. The idea of a PUBLIC OPTION is ludicrous – who can compete with an entity that doesn’t have to make a profit, or give adequate service.

(Note: I cut this rant down to size to allow for the point to be made without allowing the hijacking of our blog for an editorial— GeoT)

    • BTW: what is “vickimized”

did you mean to coin “vick -t- imized”?

      just curious, Vick.

    • “WHY DON’T PEOPLE TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE – let the private sector take care of health care overhaul. The idea of a PUBLIC OPTION is ludicrous – who can compete with an entity that doesn’t have to make a profit, or give adequate service.”

Geico, and Allstate, and Progressive compete with The Auto Club everyday and The Auto Club is, say it with me: NON PROFIT. and a VERY well run and successful operation I might add.

  2. Shawn

FedEx & UPS compete with the Postal Service quite effectively. Stanford competes with the UC schools quite effectively. Credit Unions compete with for-profit banks quite effectively.

All of those things lead to a healthier marketplace, and you don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re too busy being victimized by the echo chamber.

      Welcome Shawn 🙂

I agree, sometimes people who are stuck in the right wing echo chamber really don’t take time to think about what they are saying or whether it makes any sense at all.

    • well done Shawn. If these big bad corporations are so vulnerable that a wittle pubwic owption will be the end of them then maybe they need to fail.

  3. “sometimes people who are stuck in the right wing echo chamber really don’t take time to think about what they are saying or whether it makes any sense at all.” – and judging by some commenters, they are not stuck in the left wing echo chamber? – What’s most important is that something is good, and Obamascare, along with the far left liberals are -not good.
“Geico, and Allstate, and Progressive compete with The Auto Club everyday” – so what – Obama “care” is in control, there is no competition/control of the massive personal control mandates and authorities given; late term abortion/infanticide is supported, and there is nothing the taxpayer can do about their wealth getting stolen for this atrocity.
The government should not make moral decisions.
My comment name is not vickimized anymore, for obvious reasons; my post name is green’s gone.

  4. Hurrah, that’s what I was searching for, what a data!
