At least one poll shows voters would support lifting the pot prohibition, which would make the state of 40 million the first in the nation to legalize marijuana.
By MARCUS WOHLSEN (AP) The state already has a thriving marijuana trade, thanks to a first-of-its-kind 1996 ballot measure that allowed people to smoke pot for medical purposes. But full legalization could turn medical marijuana dispensaries into all-purpose pot stores, and the open sale of joints could become commonplace on mom-and-pop liquor store counters in liberal locales like Oakland and Santa Cruz.

California’s #1 Cash Crop
Think Progress/Lee Fang—Led by Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) last night, lawmakers convened for a special session of floor speeches urging a repeal of Don’t Act Don’t Tell. Rather than participate positively in the discussion, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) took to the floor to deliver a hate-filled response. Gohmert fired off a litany of attacks, calling the DADT repeal “perverse…social experimentation” and that soldiers are being “held hostage by a sociological attack.” His rant included a bizarre argument that the Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill would lead to a legalization of necrophilia, pedophilia, and bestiality. Later in the speech, after reading lengthy passages from the Bible against homosexuality, Gohmert said that taking away “moral teaching in America” would create a situation similar to that of Germany in the “1920’s and 1930’s” when a “little guy with a mustache” took over…

Fmr. Rep. Charlie Wilson (D-TX)
TPM/Christina Bellantoni—Wilson (D-TX), whose role in the covert operation in Afghanistan later inspired the film “Charlie Wilson’s War,” said he thinks President Obama is in a “very tough situation” when making his decision on whether to send more troops.
“It’s probably best to make a calculated withdrawal. …If I were the president, I’m not sure what I’d do. I’d probably shut it down, rather than lose a lot of soldiers and treasure,” Wilson, now 76, told the newspaper in advance of an event Thursday at the Scranton Cultural Center.
From now on, it’s “Obama’s War…”

Police find silver Mercedes Benz with pipe bombs in New Haven. At least one man arrested.
Man found with explosives for second time
NEW HAVEN — A 38-year-old man arrested after police discovered a pipe bomb, shotguns, gas masks and other items inside his Mercedes late Tuesday was arrested earlier this year on bombmaking charges in East Haven.
John Iannucci was held at New Haven police headquarters for most of the day on a host of weapons and explosives charges. The arrest could likely complicate the situation on his current court case.
2nd Update Two Men arrested:
The suspects have been identified as Jessup Bollinger, 26, of New Haven and John Iannucci, 38, of Branford . Both men have been charged with manufacture of bombs, possession of a rifle or shotgun in a vehicle, illegal possession of explosives and storage of explosive agents.
Both suspects were held on $500,000 bail.
FBI New Haven spokesman William Reiner told FOXNews.com that the bureau is now helping local police in the probe, but declined to elaborate.
Cops pulled over a motorist allegedly driving a car full of pipe bombs, rifles and a propane tank in New Haven around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to FOX 61.

After suffering from stress fractures in both feet, indited Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay held an interview with Newsweek to discuss leaving Dancing With the Stars. Of course, Tom had other things to discuss about President Obama. Now I know what was so creepy about watching him shake his booty on the show…we were watching a Birther dance.
You got into some trouble for saying on TV that you weren’t sure President Obama was born in the United States.
What I said was, to answer a question from Chris Matthews, I said: “Why wouldn’t the president of the United States show the American people his birth certificate?” You have to show a birth certificate to play Little League baseball. It’s a question that should be answered. It’s in the Constitution that you have to be a natural-born citizen of the United States to be president.
Do you think he isn’t a citizen?
I have no idea.
Is the U.S. Stepping Up Preparations for a Possible Attack?
By JONATHAN KARL
The Pentagon is always making plans, but based on a little-noticed funding request recently sent to Congress, the answer to that question appears to be yes.
Back in October 2007, ABC News reported that the Pentagon had asked Congress for $88 million in the emergency Iraq/Afghanistan war funding request to develop a gargantuan bunker-busting bomb called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP).

Now the Pentagon is shifting spending from other programs to fast forward the development and procurement of the Massive Ordnance Penetrator. The Pentagon comptroller sent a request to shift the funds to the House and Senate Appropriations and Armed Services Committees over the summer.
‘Urgent Operational Need’
The notification was tucked inside a 93-page “reprogramming” request that included a couple hundred other more mundane items.
Why now? The notification says simply, “The Department has an Urgent Operational Need (UON) for the capability to strike hard and deeply buried targets in high threat environments. The MOP is the weapon of choice to meet the requirements of the UON.” It further states that the request is endorsed by Pacific Command (which has responsibility over North Korea) and Central Command (which has responsibility over Iran).
