The Real Story Behind the “Rogue” in Sarah Palin’s New Book.

posted by GeoT

Going Rouge

Going Rogue

Sarah Palin apparently hopes to make the term “rogue” impish and endearing, and hopes it will help her sell a lot of books. But that term is no such thing to many Alaskans. It wasn’t “cute” when it was used as a finely sharpened tool in the Palin toolbox, used to malign the characters of those who stood in the way of her power scramble to become the Vice President of the United States.
She may have fooled her ghost writer, and the folks at Harper-Collins, and she may fool many of those in the Lower 48 who will wait on line for their copy of Going Rogue, but she will not fool Alaskans. Read more@: The Mudflats

Dancing With the Stars: Mya Raises the Bar

Posted by Audiegrl
myaI’ve never watched ABC’s Dancing with the Stars before. (except of course, the youtube video of Tom Delay shaking his butt) But my ears perked up when I heard that Mya was one of the celebrity dancers. Most people usually consider her a talented R&B singer, but I remember the days when she was considered a great dancer.

Mya is a dancer turned smooth urban R&B vocalist who released her eponymous debut in the spring of 1998, when she was just 18 years old.

Mya was born in Washington, D.C., where she took dance classes as a child. After briefly losing interest in the art, she returned to dancing in her pre-teens, eventually joining the dance troupe T.W.A. (Tappers With Attitude). She left the group after a short while, heading to New York to study at the Dance Theater of Harlem with Savion Glover, best known as the choreographer/mastermind behind the Broadway spectacular Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk. Her passion for improvisation made her a favorite of Glover, who had her perform solo at the Kennedy Center.

Although Mya was best known as a dancer, she was also musically inclined, learning how to sing and play the violin as a child. When her father — a professional musician — learned that his daughter could sing and was serious about a musical career, he shopped around the demo tapes, eventually earning the attention of Haqq Islam, president of University Music. Impressed with Mya’s audition, Islam signed her to Interscope Records.~Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide (2003)

This 2003 video, choreographed by Travis Payne, is one of my favorites. Mya pays homage to both Cyd Charisse and her tap mentor/genius Savion Glover. It features some rapid/instant/tricky costume changes that mostly occur without the changing of a scene. This video earned Mýa two nominations at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Dance Video and Best Choreography.

Samoa Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warning

090929-samoa-quake-hmed-12p.h2MSNBC—A tsunami struck the capital of American Samoa on Tuesday after an offshore earthquake that U.S. government agencies said registered 7.9 magnitude.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.

Fili Sagapolutele, who works at the Samoa News, says water flowed inland about 100 yards before receding, leaving cars stuck in mud.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, a branch of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii, Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Islands after the quake hit about 120 miles southwest of the remote Pacific island of American Samoa. It struck at a depth of 20.5 miles.

The bulletin estimated a tsunami, if powerful enough to reach Hawaii, would reach the island state approximately 1 p.m. local time (7 p.m. ET).

AP/Jeffrey McMurray—The son of a U.S. Census Bureau worker found hanging from a tree in eastern Kentucky with the word “fed” scrawled on his chest said Tuesday he has no doubt his father was slain.

Josh Sparkman told The Associated Press in a phone interview that he is frustrated investigators still have not ruled out suicide or accidental death.

“I look at it as disrespectful to be still throwing suicide and accident around,” he said. “He didn’t do this to himself. That’s dishonorable. My dad was a good man. No person on this planet is going to fight cancer like he did, then turn around and kill himself a year or so later.”

Bill Sparkman, 51, was a substitute teacher and part-time census worker whose body was found tied to a tree with a rope around his neck in a remote Appalachian forest earlier this month. The Clay County coroner said “fed” was written on his chest, apparently in felt tip pen. Authorities have refused to say if he was going door-to-door for census surveys before he died.

Josh Sparkman, 19, said he learned of his father’s death Sept. 13, a day after his body was found. Bill Sparkman adopted him when he was a baby.

Recovery.org Website Upgrade Makes it Easier to Monitor Federal Stimulus

Los Angeles Times/Joe Markman—Since February, when the government launched a website, Recovery.gov, to provide a window on the federal stimulus package, critics have been calling for a makeover.

Now they have one.

The revamped website, unveiled today by the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board at a cost of $9.5 million in stimulus funds, provides easier-to-use tools, such as a ZIP Code search that shows stimulus projects in local communities. The government has also opened a toll-free hot line (1-877-FWA-DESK) for reporting fraud, waste and abuse.

“This is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Craig Jennings, a policy analyst at OMB Watch, a nonprofit government watchdog.

Still, the government has a ways to go to complete transparency, Jennings said. The site, Recovery.gov, for instance, does not include complete data on recipients of stimulus money, and users face significant hurdles to using the information that is available.

“It’s more of a nose job than a face lift,” Jennings said. “You need to put these data in a simple text format that people can download and use in Excel.”

Cheryl Arvidson, a spokeswoman for the recovery board, said in response that Web developers were working on creating better downloadable features, but that it is hard to judge ease of use while much of the data has yet to be posted.

The government is set to release comprehensive data about recipient contracts Oct. 15, according to its website, and will post grant and loan information Oct. 30.

GOP Rep. Trent Franks Calls Obama An Enemy Of Humanity

Posted by Audiegrl

An enemy of humanity? I’m left speechless…

GOP Rep. Trent Franks

GOP Rep. Trent Franks

Huffington Post—A Republican member of the House of Representatives accused President Barack Obama of being “an enemy of humanity” during a conservative values forum this past weekend.

In a speech Saturday before the How to Take Back America conference, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) made comments that went far beyond the limits of traditional White House criticism. At one point, Franks demanded that Obama release his birth certificate to prove his constitutionally eligibility to hold office. The bluntest charge, however, centered on the president’s position on abortion, which the congressman derided as “insane” and godless.

“Obama’s first act as president of any consequence, in the middle of a financial meltdown, was to send taxpayers’ money overseas to pay for the killing of unborn children in other countries,” said Frank. “Now, I got to tell you, if a president will do that, there’s almost nothing that you should be surprised at after that. We shouldn’t be shocked that he does all these other insane things. A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can’t do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.”

Watch his disgraceful video:

RightWingWatch.org, who provided the video, also has a follow up to this story

A spokesperson for Trent’s office attempts to clarify:

Trent Franks of Arizona said in a speech to conservatives Saturday in St. Louis that Obama’s decision to fund international family planning organizations that support legal abortion shows “he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.”

Bethany Haley, spokeswoman for Franks, said the congressman was referring to “unborn humanity” and should have clarified his statement.

Right… As you can see we have another example of an elected Republican official throwing red meat to his base, and then being forced to ‘clarify‘ his comments after the event has concluded and the damage has been done.

These attempts to de-humanize the President will only continue to increase the climate of hate.
