www.DropDobbs.com—-Over the years, Lou Dobbs has consistently used his CNN platform to spread hatred and fear. He played a critical role in skewing the immigration reform debate in 2006, leading to the derailment of that effort, and his obsession with the issue of immigration and with defeating immigration reform continues unabated. Adding to his repertoire of hate and fearmongering, he has recently aligned himself with the “birther” conspiracists and their racially tinged attack on the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency. From his CNN platform, he has bolstered the claims of those on the fringe by asserting repeatedly that President Obama has failed to produce adequate proof that he was born in the United States. His recent focus on the birth certificate conspiracy issue has reinforced what immigration reform proponents have long known — that Dobbs has a long history of the worst kind of pandering by promoting hate and ethnic and racial division.

Dobbs has promoted the work of hate groups, spread racially charged conspiracy theories including about Obama’s birth certificate, railed against “ethnocentric special interests,” and accused the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of being sympathetic to “Mexico’s export of drugs and illegal aliens.” It is time to highlight the damage Dobbs does and the threat he poses, and it is time to demand accountability from advertisers who, by purchasing airtime on his show, actively support his hate speech. When advertisers sponsor Lou Dobbs, this is what they are paying for:

Dobbs advanced racially charged conspiracy theories about Obama’s birth certificate.

Dobbs has close ties to “hate group” FAIR.

Dobbs said Sotomayor nomination was “absolute pandering to the Hispanics.”

Dobbs declared “Mexico has become our enemy.”

Dobbs smeared U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as “interested in the export of American capital and production to Mexico, and Mexico’s export of drugs and illegal aliens.”

Dobbs fearmongered about Mexican “reconquista” plot.

Dobbs aired hate group graphic to illustrate “the Vicente Fox Aztlan tour.”

Dobbs spread leprosy falsehood in claiming “invasion of illegal aliens” threatening Americans’ “health.”

Dobbs asked if Obama is “pandering to ethnocentric special interests again” by accepting Richardson’s endorsement.

Dobbs praised Philadelphia English-only sign ruling as “a defeat for ethnocentric special interests.”

This is why we have joined together to launch the DropDobbs campaign — to let companies know that their continued financial support of his show makes them complicit in the hate speech that he promotes.

waffles_phixrLou Dobbs buys ‘Obama Waffles’ featuring racist, stereotyped images sold at Values Voter Summit in 2008. At the Values Voter Summit this weekend, vendors sold an item called “Obama Waffles” featuring a racist cartoon of then Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on the box front — with “popping eyes and big, thick lips” — and another image of him wearing an Arab-like headdress on its top flap. Its creators, Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, said it was meant as “political satire,” and sold the box for $10 from a booth at the Family Research Council event. CNN’s Lou Dobbs stopped by the booth and exclaimed, “My wife will love this!”

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for “Open Border fiesta Waffles” that says it can serve “4 or more illegal aliens.” The recipe includes a tip: “While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?”

The American News Project stopped by the booth to ask some questions of ‘Obama Waffes’ creators, Bob DeMoss and Mark Whitlock. They seemed to think their creation was really funny and creative. {{sigh}}

Latinos to CNN: Dump Dobbs Now! by Roberto Lovato

According to Roberto Lavato,

“The movement to drop Dobbs marks a critical shift in the direction of Latino activism in the United States. It was previewed in 2006, when media and technology helped move thousands to march through the streets, waving flags, beating drums and demanding change. And now, as the destructive role that the national media can play in spreading myths and misinformation becomes painfully clear, we are witnessing a new age of Latino media activism. These battles will be fought through Internet organizing, on cell phones via text messaging, and on blogs as much as in the streets. Paradoxically, we have no one to thank for this new movement more than Lou Dobbs. The Most Dangerous Man for Latinos in America may do as much as anyone to unite us in our ongoing struggle for civil rights.”

Rapping Joe’s Knuckles, an Editorial by Maureen Dowd

NYT Columnist Maureen Dowd

NYT Columnist Maureen Dowd

NYT/Maureen Dowd—Joe Wilson, congressman, argued that Joe Wilson, chucklehead, should not be formally rebuked.

It would be a waste of time, he asserted on the House floor where, six days earlier, he had committed his conduct most unbecoming.

Other Republicans stepped up to the microphone to agree that this was a distraction from the important things they could be doing. (Like stepping up their effort to kill President Obama’s attempt to provide health care for the have-nots in society?)

“When we are done here today,” said the man who accused the president of lying, “we will not have taken any steps to improve the country.”

Actually, Wilson is dead wrong again. When House Democrats, and a handful of Republicans, reprimanded the congressman on Tuesday evening for refusing to apologize to his colleagues for breaking the rules, it was quite a wonderful way to improve America.

It was a rare triumph for civility in a country that seems to have lost all sense of it — from music arenas to tennis courts to political gatherings to hallowed halls — and a ratification of an institution that has relied on strict codes of conduct for two centuries to prevent a breakdown of order.

President Carter was Right…Man Beats Black Woman At Cracker Barrel in Front of Her 7 Year Old Daughter

Posted by Audiegrl

This just makes me think about what President Carter said last night on NBC about racial hatred. I think that Troy West is a perfect example of that racial mindset, but also the fact that a group of people were willing to give information to the police afterwards, but none of them lifted a finger to help this poor woman and her child. It really makes you wonder… The video of her 7 year-old daughter crying and saying that she thought it was her fault, because she chose that restaurant…it was just heartbreaking…the fact that Tasha going in and out of consciousness trying to tell her assailant that she was with the United States Military, hoping that would stop his fists…to no avail…he didn’t stop beating her, and no one else tried to help stop the beating.

To coin a phrase from the rabid right, ‘this is not the country I grew up in, I want my country back!‘. In my America, people don’t beat down helpless women in front of their small children at local restaurants. In my America, if innocent bystanders or Cracker Barrel management see this atrocity happening, they try to stop it, and subdue the attacker until the police arrived. In my America, soldiers and reservists are held in high regard, regardless of the color of their skin, and should be defended against this sort of hate.

Read the story and watch the video. Then let me know what you think. Is this your America?

CBS/MORROW, Ga. — Morrow police said they arrested a man after he beat up a woman who asked him to “be careful” at a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Morrow police were called to the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Southlake Plaza Drive in Morrow Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers said they located the female victim and called for EMTs and Fire Department officials to assist. At the same time, the alleged offender in the case, Troy Dale West, of Poulan, Ga. was detained at the scene, police said.

Police said an investigation revealed that the female victim, identified as Tasha Hill, was entering the Cracker Barrel with her 7-year-old daughter as West was leaving the restaurant. As West was leaving, the exit door came close to striking the 7-year-old daughter of the victim, police said. Hill, by all witness accounts, politely asked West to be careful, officials said.

“The man slung open the door pretty hard and fast and I had to push my daughter out of the way. I turned to the man and I just said, ‘Excuse me sir, you need to watch yourself you almost hit my daughter in the face.’ And from there it just went downhill,” said Hill.

At that point, West became enraged and began to beat the victim in front of her 7-year-old daughter, according to police. Hill said she told West she was an Army servicemember and she did not want any trouble.

West threw her to the ground and hit her in the head with his fists and feet, police said. During the exchange, witnesses said West could be heard screaming racial slurs towards the victim.
“He said, ‘You’re an f****** black (N-word) b****,’ is what he said,” said Hill. “Then he punched me in my face. And I fell to the ground and he proceeded to punch in my head and face.”

Many witnesses stepped up to assist police in the investigation by providing written statements as to the events that transpired. Cracker Barrel was also helpful to police in this investigation, Morrow police said.

This case has been referred to the FBI Civil Rights Division for a possible violation of Federal Hate Crime Laws.

Once officers obtained witness statements on the scene and looked at video surveillance from the Cracker Barrel, West was arrested and charged with battery, disorderly conduct, and cruelty to children in the first degree.

West has bonded out of jail.

Extremist Conservative Ideology – How it Harms American Democracy and the GOP

By Janna Seliger
Published: 4/10/2009 “… I have deep respect for the opinions of those who might not agree with me. Just because I have a certain idea about how government should work or what should be legal or not does not mean I don’t think others should instantly agree with me. It is our ability to disagree and debate that makes us stronger, because we don’t stifle opinions and ideas that might be of great value. Still, there are some who are so absorbed in their own ideology that they continue to split people into categories of “us” and “them”.
These people are giving the GOP a bad name, making the Republican party’s image even worse than it was under former President Bush.

I’ll be honest: there are some reasonable Republicans out there. I don’t agree with everything they say, but some are reasonable and are essential for maintaining a good balance in our government. What happens if these people become the face of the Republican party? Their power will shrink even further so that the voices of those who don’t agree with the Democrats will be drowned out…”
