FLOTUS: All Things Michelle Obama

blank
First Lady Michelle ObamaMichelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama (born January 17, 1964) is the wife of the forty-fourth President of the United States, Barack Obama, and is the first First Lady of the United States of African-American heritage.

When people ask the First Lady to describe herself, she doesn’t hesitate. First and foremost, she is Malia and Sasha’s mom.

But before she was a mother — or a wife, lawyer, or public servant — she was Fraser and Marian Robinson’s daughter.

The Robinsons lived in a brick bungalow on the South Side of Chicago. Fraser was a pump operator for the Chicago Water Department, and despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age, he hardly ever missed a day of work. Marian stayed home to raise Michelle and her brother, Craig, skillfully managing a busy household filled with love, laughter, and important life lessons.

Craig, Fraiser, Michelle, Marion Robinson, 1964A product of Chicago public schools, Michelle studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton University. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1988, she joined the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin, where she later met the man who would become the love of her life.

After a few years, Michelle decided her true calling lay in encouraging people to serve their communities and their neighbors. She served as assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago’s City Hall before becoming the founding executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program that prepares youth for public service.

In 1996, Michelle joined the University of Chicago with a vision of bringing campus and community together. Obama Family Portrait by Annie LebowitzAs associate dean of student services, she developed the university’s first community service program, and under her leadership as vice president of community and external affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center, volunteerism skyrocketed.

Promoting Service and working with young people has remained a staple of her career and her interest. Continuing this effort now as First Lady, Mrs. Obama recently launched the Let’s Move! campaign to bring together community leaders, teachers, doctors, nurses, moms and dads in a nationwide effort to tackle the challenge of childhood obesity. Let’s Move! has an ambitious but important goal: to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation.

Let's Move!Let’s Move! will give parents the support they need, provide healthier food in schools, help our kids to be more physically active, and make healthy, affordable food available in every part of our country.

As First Lady, Mrs. Obama looks forward to continuing her work on the issues close to her heart — supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, encouraging national service, promoting the arts and arts education, and fostering healthy eating and healthy living for children and families across the country.

Michelle and Barack Obama have two daughters: Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9. Like their mother, the girls were born on the South Side of Chicago.

  182. Dear 44- Diaries:

My name is Kurtis L. Miller I am really trying to meet Michelle Obama but all
information that I have sent to the White House web site has gone unnoticed. Here is a bit more of who I am, what I do and why it is important that I contact Michelle Obama directly. My name is Kurtis L. Miller. I am a featured artist, in Art Takes Times Square, New York City’s immense art exhibition, participating Chef in Michelle Obama’s Chefs Move To Schools program. I would like to submit my comic strip to you called The Patch Organics. My comic strip is about The Organics; they are fruits and vegetables whose one goal is to enter the school system becoming healthy lunches for students aiding in the fight against obesity. My comic strip is humorous, enlightening.

My idea is to put on my interactive cooking demonstration for the children of schools globally, one school at a time. My cooking demo features story telling time, safe food handling skills, a sing along chant, glove on stretch along, serving my fruit hash salad which consist of grated apples, pears and pineapple chunks. I am also interested in leasing my comic strip to your school systems for advertisement purposes promoting and encouraging healthy eating and living wisely. Your school will receive twelve episodes, one episode each month to be posted on web site and in newsletters for the total price of one dollar per school, per year.

I am distributing my certificates of achievement, participation to schools, which they can use for students in a variety of ceremonies. This further promotes The Patch, Organics popularity among students. In time, I will be allowed to post an episode of The Patch, Organics monthly on schools web sites and in their newsletters in the United States and abroad. In time I will have clearance to post my comic strip on The Department of Educations web site, newsletter.

I can create a Patch Organics episode, which highlights your services adding to your popularity. If you are at all interested in learning more about my comic please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will send you a sample of my work upon your request. I look forward to working with you and patiently await your response.

    Sincerely,

    Kurtis L. Miller

this is very long so that means i have to read it all which means i don’t like it

  184. Everything posted was very logical. But, consider this, what if you added a little information?
I ain’t saying your content is not good, but what if you added a title that grabbed a person’s attention?
I mean FLOTUS: All Things Michelle Obama | 44-D is a
little plain. You ought to glance at Yahoo’s home page and see how they write news titles to grab viewers to click. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to grab readers interested about everything’ve got to say.
Just my opinion, it would make your blog a little bit more interesting.

  185. Have you ever thought about publishing an ebook or guest authoring on other blogs? I have a blog centered on the same subjects you discuss and would love to have you share some stories/information. I know my audience would appreciate your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an email.
